Tutor

I enjoy teaching people to sew and have designed a five-part sewing course which covers the basic skills, working with a sewing machine and sewing by hand. The course develops confidence so that students can go on to progress in their own craft.

I teach adults and children – and am happy to set up individual or small group lessons. These can be based on the sewing course or focus on whatever people would like to learn.

Every so often I run workshops at home based on my own practice. Both are based on re-purposing fabric or clothing with significance to you. Vouchers for these are available and make great presents.

I also run a number of community sewing projects sharing my experience with local groups.

Community Sewing Projects

Sewing is a wonderful thing. There's something about stitching with a group.

Sewing helps people relax and talk and then there's the fact that you're all making something.

Sewing workshops for refugees and asylum seekers

I support Hay, Brecon and Talgarth Sanctuary for Refugees in running sewing workshops at their Welcome Days in around Hay-on-Wye.  Sadly, these events aren't able to take place at the moment, but once lockdown rules are loosened, we'll be planning some more days in local village halls where refugees from South Wales can meet and make with local communities on the Welsh Border.

Costume project for Hay Castle Trust

In this exciting project, I will be helping a group of volunteers to make replica Medieval costumes that visitors to Hay Castle can try on.  We've had to put this project on hold for now because of the pandemic, but when we're allowed to get together, we've an enthusiastic group ready to get going. If you'd like to join us, please get in touch. haycastletrust.org

The Friendship Quilt

This is a community sewing project I have developed to raise money for Swansea Asylum Seeker Support (SASS).

Asylum seekers, refugees and their friends and supporters are asked to embroider a linen square, supplied in kit-form, with a design based on the idea of FRIENDSHIP.

The squares will be sewn together to make a quilt and sold to raise money for the charity. Please get in touch if you'd like to take part and join our Facebook Group - The Friendship Quilt to find out what we're up to.
